Yahoo! got together with Volvo, Vice Magazine and The Independent to conceive the Creative 30 – a competition to find and showcase 30 of the most promising up and coming creative talents in Britain. Two winners were to be selected, one by a specially chosen panel of experts, the other the ‘peoples choice’ voted by visitors to the site.
Dgtl were given the task of making the site a reality, coding up the entry submission mechanism and a PHP administration tool that allowed the judges to select the final 30 candidates to appear on the site from the wide range of submissions. The final candidates included creatives from such diverse disciplines as Fine Art, Sculpture, Music, Tattooing, Illustration, Fashion, Print, Photography and even Millinery (that’s making hats to you and me). After the selection was made the site switched to the voting interface and displayed video interviews with each of the final 30 candidates conducted by Vice Magazine, a lightbox gallery featuring samples of their work, and an AJAX voting mechanism. Volvo’s sponsorship of the site was also based around creativity and featured an interview with Volvo’s chief designer discussing his inspirations and challenges in designing the Volvo C30.
Being in the creative business ourselves, this was a special project for Dgtl and it was fantastic to see the breadth and depth of the UK’s creativity – a great project for all involved.
